I enjoyed the movie for what it is : I totally agree with many of the reviewers on the content of the movie vs the content of the book. I concur with the view that Anne would not run around Bath without being properly attired, even though the character has no great feelings for "propriey" as it is found in her own family circle. High Quality Entertainment : I really enjoyed this film. It started out different than I had expected compared to the other Elizabeth Gaskell films that BBC has put out. I also own Wives & Daughters and North & South. I LOVE them both and was expecting Cranford to be somewhat the same. What I realized is that Cranford is character driven while the other two are more plot driven. The first hour was a little slow but it got more and more entertaining as I went and by the time it was over I had laughed and cried and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Now I think I will go back and watch it again and I am sure the first hour will be even more interesting to me. Judi Dench was amazing in this film. She played such a simple women and she did it powerfully. I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys clean well made period films.

Roger Ebert is the champion of the underdog-ie. films no one sees or would want to see except for him and since at least 70% of the movies reviewed in this book falls into this category it would take six reviews by me to list them but how about "Gates of Heaven" a documentary about a pet cemetary which Mr Ebert feels is about the dogged elusiveness of the American Dream-this would bring pause to someone who goes to a pet cemetary to bury Fido and stop to ponder the elusiveness of the American dream. Could this be the movie review that won Mr Ebert the pulitzer prize? Maybe.

Sometimes a four star review can be a head-scratcher. "Funny Girl" is a great example. He hated the story-hated the scenery-hated the photography-hated the direction-hated the length-hated the co-stars but he loved Barbra Streisand. This must have been the reason for the 4-stars-but I must take issue with you for that Mr Ebert-Barbra Streisand deserves a lot more than just four stars.

Another howler is his review of the movie version of "Godspell" This was based on the off-broadway show which portrayed the last 7 days in the life of Christ with all the actors dressed clown-like. Jesus had baggy pants and a superman t-shirt. The show was a hit because it didnt pretend it was anything but entertainment and nothing profound. The movie was so bad it was pulled out of theatres as soon as it was delivered. The jokey dialogue and luke-warm songs which were a hit on stage were now performed by the singing, dancing clowns against every well-known landmark in NYC.
The actors portraying Jesus and Judas were called that, and since it didnt matter the rest of the actors playing the disciples used their own names as their character names. This was the main impetus for Mr Eberts 4 star review of the film. he thought it was profound. And Mr Ebert finding that profound-now thats what i call profound!

But i have to admit these last two reviews were early on in Mr Eberts career and he has become a fair-minded and well-respected critic--but he still LOVES those movies where the elusive American Dream is still not to be found in a pet cemetary.

This book is an excellent film reference guide. It contains (belive it or not) all of Roger Eberts four-star reviews from 1967 until 2007. I havent yet found a great movie that is not contained in the book.

This is a perfect before-bed read because you can look at one review at a time - and there are tons of them! It is also fun to use the index to look up all of the films by your favorite directors and actors.

The first thing that I usually do after I finish watching a movie is read Eberts review. I always appreciate the reviews by Ebert because he has brilliant insights and honest, un-biased, educated opinions. I find that I always learn something new about films by looking at them from his perspective.

This guide is great for people -like myself- who have see so many films, that it is hard to find good ones that you havent already viewed. If Ebert gives a film four stars, you should probably go see it. Ill try to watch every film in this book I am probably one fourth of the way there.

This, along with Eberts "The Great Movies" parts one and two, are must-have books for film lovers.

as it says on the jacket to one of ROGERs annual film reference guides , its like having a conversation with a good friend . when i was younger , i saw eye to eye with MR. EBERT the lions share of the time . as i grew older , a greater dispairity of opinion between myself and ROG began to occur . i noticed he had a strong disposition in favor of film with a very liberal agenda . thats hardly the point though . not only would it be profoundly boring if we always agreed , id lose . id lose one of the very best sources of film appreciation to which i could avail myself . oh , many is the time i wondered who slipped him an envelope to grant a good review to a film i though haughty or pretentious or heavy handed or crumby or stupid . but at the end of the week or month or however long i would go without reading ROGER , i knew i was not utilizing my favorite film critic . hell , we seldom agree on horror or comedy movies . who cares . hes still the man . hes put himself out there for public consumption for 40 years now . when hes on (and its often) hes simply a great author . and he writes to meet deadlines . amazing body of work really . enthralling as a matter of fact . . oh , and hes not watchin the DVD like we are .

I have listened to rock my whole life I am 50 AC/DC has always been a part of my music growth. I really dig the hard driving riffs it is truly what I look for in music. I do miss the vocals of Bon Scott, but Brian Johnson sure as hell aint no slouch, he is a hard driver in the vocals with exceptional talent. If you are looking for a hard drive rocking, they still have it down. The music is changed in its dynamic, but it does not miss a beat, hats off to AC/DC you guys show that rockin is still alive and well, keep it up............

Barricades role in the 2007 film may make him a prime candidate for purchase for your kids or whoever. There are definitely others out there, many others in fact. Barricades allure however comes from his alternate mode, the very sneaky police car mode which is well done. The black definitely represents his allegiance to the Decepticons. Theres small details like the written phrase above the rear-right wheel that says "To punish and enslave". The POLICE writing on the doors is shiny which is a nice touch. What is a little frustrating about Barricade becomes evident after his first transformation. He transforms very easily and he looks great in robot mode. However, once you want to put him back in car mode, you might run into trouble. You attempt to pack in his legs again and bring up the sides of the car (his arms) to snap into the folded up legs, but they will not match up correctly. A lot of people get frustrated easily because he doesnt seem to cooperate. Barricade is just merely a little more tricky than other Transformers. What eludes a lot (and even me for a while) is that his chest is connected to a small lever that folds up and goes into the chassis of the car. You kinda have to push his chest/legs up and then into the car. This gives you the necessary leeway to get the other pieces to snap together. Barricade is a little tricky for a Transformer, so make sure you know how to do it before handing it to a small child who might get upset easily. Still, he retains his cool looks in both forms and is a nice pickup.

The Premium Barricade transformer is great for display, and has excellent articulation. The detail is top notch, bearing the "To Punish and Enslave" tag on one rear quarter panel and a license plate reading DCPTCN. It comes with a tiny Frenzy transformer that can be taken out of Barricades chest/grill, but he isnt much to look at. Barricades left arm has a small trigger you can press that makes his forearm pop forward in a punch, but if you dont do it just right it looks less like a punch and more like his arm is just extending downward. He holds together fairly well, but you have to be careful when transforming him (especially from robot to car). The bottom line is if you like Transformers and want the toys, definitely pick this one up IF you plan on displaying it and not working the parts a lot. If youre thinking about buying this for a child to play with, you should look at some of the bulkier lines of transformers made to handle wear and tear. Younger children just dont have the hand dexterity take care of this model, and it probably wouldnt take much transforming/battling for Barricade to break.

Gave to a seven year old who immediately transformed it several times without even looking at the directions. He found it very cooool! Recommended as a great present for his age group.

Not easy to transform. Toy is not durable enough to withstand transformations back and force, the "teeth" on plastic gear got broken too easy, which make this transformation impossible.

I finally found this premium edition at a local Walmart the other day. Definately the hardest one to locate out of the new bunch of premium edition figures that Hasbro has put out. I thought the new paint app. would be much better next to the original, boy was I mistaken. As soon as I got home I compared the premium bumblebee to the standard one I have and the difference is very minor. The supposed new gold metallic finish isnt that much greater in comparison to the original. All you get is a little darker finish ( yellow ). The black stripping has changed a little ( big deal ). Now the gas cap and the windshield wipers are painted silver ( wow ). The paint app. really isnt all that metallic to be honest. Probably due to the fact that Hasbro always seems to do crappy paint jobs on all of their figures as of late. My major gripe and advice to all other collectors out there is why didnt Hasbro just make this the standard Bumblebee from the very begining. Actually thats a dumb question, because they want more money " duh ". Not saying this Bumblebee isnt decent or anything. If you dont have one yet try to get this one instead of the regular one if you can find him. If you already have the standard edition I would recommend, if you can comparing the two and making sure that it is absolutely worth youre hard earned cash first.
